At the watch shows in Switzerland this spring most of the new mechanical complications and model variations were aimed toward men.
But that doesn’t mean watchmakers aren’t thinking about women. Far from it. After all, women comprise half of the potential market for luxury wristwatches but at most luxury watchmakers currently represent far less than 20% of total.
“We want our brand to be replica Breitling Watches well-balanced between men and women,” a Raymond Weil spokeswoman told me in Basel last month. “It’s not there yet, but we’ll get there. And we’re dedicated to craftsmanship regardless of who will ultimately wear the watch.”
As you might expect, most of the novelties from high jewelry houses like Van Cleef & Arpel, Cartier, Harry Winston and Chanel this year are for women. They featured pavé diamonds, rolex replica brightly colored dials, feathers and pearl-inlaid animals so lifelike you could almost hear them growling, chirping or hissing at you.
But there are also plenty of women-specific offerings from more traditionally male-dominated houses like Audemars Piguet, Piaget, Jaeger-LeCoultre and Hermès. The folks at Longines told me they are getting all-time-high requests for ladies automatic watches; executives at Tag Heuer considered the cheap Breitling replica women’s steel Aquaracer possibly their most exciting debut this year. And Shinola’s recent ad campaign shot by Bruce Weber was aimed directly at women as the Detroit-based brand tries to expand into a lifestyle and design company.
“Reaching more women is absolutely important to us,” reps said. “We hope to reach a lot more of them this year and next.”
